About Me
Hi, I’m Florian,
This page provides an overview of all the output from my academic work so far. If you just stumbled across this, here's a short introduction:
I see myself as an agreeable and curious person. My main interests are climate change, global catastrophic risk, feminism, history, and food security. After completing a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate in environmental science, I am currently working on global food security and societal collapse.

My Work
Living Literature Review (Blog)
I am writing a living literature review on societal collapse. I aim to summarize the research in an accessible format and update my posts as new studies are published. You can find a sorted archive of all posts so far here, and you can also subscribe to my newsletter if you want to get notified about new posts.
Academic Papers

The State of Global Catastrophic Risk Research: A Bibliometric Review (2024)
Global catastrophic and existential risk research examines potential threats to humanity like artificial intelligence, pandemics and climate change. We did a systematic review of over 3,000 papers and show the field has been growing considerably over the last ten years and is highly inderdisplinary, yet important gaps in the literature remain.
Food trade disruption after global catastrophes (2024)
Food trade is crucial for a large portion of the world’s population. But what would happen if a major catastrophe occurred, such as a supervolcanic eruption or extreme space weather? It would decrease dramatically. This highlights the need to better prepare for such events, even if they are unlikely.
Seaweed as a Resilient Food Solution After a Nuclear War (2024)
In this paper, we examined whether seaweed could make a meaningful contribution in scenarios where Earth's temperature suddenly cools due to catastrophic events like a nuclear winter. Turns out it can!
Focus of the IPCC Assessment Reports Has Shifted to Lower Temperatures (2022)
Chances are, we will end up with a warming of 2°C or more. The problem is that the vast majority of our climate change research focuses on 2°C and below.
